A Reshuffle On The Cards?

The rumours of an imminent Cabinet reshuffle is getting stronger - again. But of course, it could always be another false alarm - especially if Pak Lah has not yet obtained his "inspiration".

This Cabinet reshuffle has been long-awaited as many political pundits see it as an appointment of Pak Lah's Cabinet - as opposed to the current "compromise Cabinet" he has now, many of whom are made up of the legacy stalwarts from the Mahathir days. Some of them are probably retained there, to ensure lack of divisiveness and strong support for Pak Lah in UMNO - more than any other reason.

I don't know all the Ministries within the Government (there are too many and many have been restructured and renamed) but part of my "dream team" (within the confines of what is possible, of course) for Pak Lah's Cabinet Team, would be as follows:-

Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs - Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations - Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak

Minister of Finance - Dato' Seri Hishamuddin Hussein

Minister of Education - Dato' Azalina Othman Said

Minister of Higher Education - Dato' Ong Tee Keat

Minister of International Trade and Industry - Dato' Husni Hanadzlah

Minister of Agriculture - Dato' Seri Muhyiddin Yassin

Minister of Defence - Dato' Seri Nazri Aziz

Minister of Housing and Local Government - Dato' Seri Ong Ka Ting

Minister of Transport - Dato' Seri Chan Kong Choy

Minister of Health - Dato' Chua Soi Lek

Minister of Information - Dato' Azmi Khalid

Minister of Human Resources - Dato' Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn

Minister of Rural Development - Dato' Senator Norraesah Saad

Minister of Entrepreneur and Co-Operative Development - Dato' Seri Rafidah Aziz

Minister of Energy, Communications and Water - Dato' Seri Dr. Lim Keng Yaik

Minister of Foreign Affairs - Dato' Seri Syed Hamid Albar

Minister of Tourism - Dato' Seri Shahrizat Jalil

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage - Dato' Seri Dr. Rais Yatim

Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs - Dato' Dr Ng Yen Yen

Minister of Youth and Sports - Dato' Azimi Daim

Minister of Works - Dato Seri Samy Vellu

Minister of Women, Family and Social Development - Chew Mei Fun

Minister of Federal Territory - Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment - Dato' Sri Adenan Satem

Minister of Farm Industries and Commodities - Dato' Peter Chin Fah Kui

Minister in PM's Department - Dato' Mustapa Mohamad, S. Sothinathan, Datuk Abdullah Zin, Dato' Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, Dato' Shahrir Samad, Dato' Noraini Ahmad, Tengku Azlan Sultan Abu Bakar, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, Dato' Shafie Apdal, etc.

That's my wish list for the Cabinet reshuffle. Let's see how far the deviations are from Pak Lah's actual Cabinet reshuffle. Watch this space!

You left out Ministry of Minor Perfidy... Toh Puan Noni anak Pak Samad.

I really wish Dato'Seri Dr. Rais Yatim would be placed in a more pro-active and consequential position that's more conducive for nation-building... him being so cute and all.

Did your crystal ball tell you when this is hapening? I'm gonna take out a bet with zee laki...

There are East Malaysians on the list - Adenan Satem, Peter Chin.

And don't forget that there's still the Deputy Ministers and Parliamentary Secretary list - remember, we have one of the largest Cabinet teams in the world! ;)

Noni a.k.a. The Ministress:

I'm happy with Rais Yatim where he is.

I think it's about time Arts, Culture and Heritage portfolio got a heavyweight to represent it.

We don't want a next generation that is buta budaya sendiri. Pak Rais will see to it that we do not forget.

Cosmic-gurl:

As long as the MIC President does not retire, convention requires that he be given a Manisterial portfolio.

We don't have a choice in this one, I'm afraid. Until there is an internal revolt within MIC.

Thinktankgal:

I think you meant Dato' Nazri. I think he'll be good in defence. He seems to defend himself pretty well, in Parliament. ;)

Pixie:

Some people don't need to have a position to have influence. Enough said. :)

Aiyo, don't la broadbrush the Malays like that. It's MY obsession, as I am a student of history.

And Malay history without discussing its politics, is no history at all.

And I'm quite sure that the politicians are good at both bribing and making love,...to more than one person. ;)

i still think there's too many ministers.. plus i think there should be 1 minister for education with 1 deputy each for higher and lower ed. instead of what we have now.

Yang? Have me met in a past life? ;)

MITI is there, "yang" - I prefer Dato' Husni Hanadzlah to head it - then, the AP issues will probably come to an end.

As for MOF - Dato' Mustapa is a great consultative think-tanker and is certainly of Ministerial claibre - but I think we need someone more decisive in that position.

Dato' Hishamuddin Hussein, I think, is ready for the next step-up and is represnetative of Malaysia's age demographic and voting population.

Furthermore, he's anticipated to go for the UMNO VP position in the next UMNO elections and is probably in line to be the next DPM, ceteris paribus.

Desparil:

Yes, there are too many ministries, but that's because we have a Barisan coalition and there are too many political parties that have "to be given Cabinet posts".

As for education, the solution is to decentralize the education system and devolve some autonomy back to the district and school level.

Let parents take a more prominent role in schools and ensuring the quality of education.

It has worked for the SJKC - therefore, there's no reason why it should not work for Sekolah Kebangsaan.

But again, the central issue whether the Government wants to relinquish central control. That's a political decision.

Na-ahh....looks like your Dream Team is not to be, eh?

I simply don't get it. Why is the lady still there, despite everything?

Maybe I'm politically naive. Duh.
