American Idol Finals: It's "Soul Patrol" vs "McPheever"!!

YES! YES! YES! I GOT MY WISH!

(*Pixie - are you listening?)

Elliot Yamin has been eliminated.

And that makes the top 2 for this season's American Idol - Taylor and Katherine!!

Yeehaaa!!! Go McPheever!

But bear in mind that it was close. 50 million votes were tallied and according to Mercury News, less than 1 percent, separated all 3 contestants. (Although, 1 percent is about 500,000 votes here)

That's very, very close. It's probably the closest American Idol semi-final ever.

I'm elated that Katherine will get her recording deal. :) And I look forward to her first album and music video. Whatever happens in the final, is a bonus.

And I think it will be a great final - performance-wise - if everyone chooses the songs that bring out their best.

And my prediction still stands. I think Taylor will win the American Idol.

Alriiiiight!!! Great day so far - I feel like having a doughnut!

p.s. Pixie, I'm so happy right now, I'll take you out for belanja makan anywhere you want. But no I-Pod lah. ;)

Ray,

Told ya Katherine's on her way to become the next American Idol. You read it here first.

The judges were only hard on her because they must have felt that she didn't deserve to go this far due to her inconsistency. But on a vote of popularity, Simon has clearly said that Katherine will weather through to the finals. This is despite earlier eliminated contestants being more vocally talented than her and even Taylor.

But y'know what's the odd thing? Chris despite being eliminated, is likely to have the most successful career of the final four with the popular rock band Fuel. I also have no doubt that Katherine whether she wins or not, will climb the US Top 40 Charts with her rendition of the theme song to Titanic part 2. Taylor will come out with an album of blues standards that will do well with the radio crowd. But poor Elliot - alas, no recording contract for him...

Personally the only reason why I can't stand Katherine is the way she oversings her song in a valiant effort to "show off" her vocals. Her rendition of R.Kelly's I Believe I can Fly yesterday made me grimace in pain. But then one man's pain is another man's music..well...

One thing I'm in agreement though. If her winning means we'll see her in her next music video replete with sexy plunging necklines and tight tubes (like what she's been wearing so far), then grrrr.....carry on! :)

Still disagree with you. Taylor will win but Kat will sell more albums and make it big on music video.

Kat's been lucky that she has enough consistent support.

As for vocal talent - I feel that only Mandisa, Chris, Lisa Tucker and Paris Bennett had better vocals than her.

Mandisa, Lisa and Paris (like Kat) is not very intelligent in choice of songs. And that's been their downfall - aside from lacking visual props.

Chris was just unlucky because his fans got over-confident. That should never happen in an SMS contest - leads to a disaster.

But I agree that Chris will go on to do quite well, in the music business. He'll definitely be a star.

Agree with you on the over-singing part.

Happens to people who are vocally-trained since small, perhaps. Lisa Tucker had the same problem - could not keep to the original melody.

Maybe there's this thing about making the song their own, instead of just sounding good. So, they over-flaunt the vocals.

But yes, am looking forward to her music video. I think it should be directed by people who do Mariah Carey's videos. ;)

Stand aside, Kelly Clarkson - a hotter female Idol is coming up!

IDOL UPDATE:

Here are the percentages of the votes for all the 3 finalists, from a pool of 50 million votes:

Taylor Hicks - 33.68%

Katharine McPhee - 33.26%

Elliot Yamin - 33.06%

Everyone was separated from each other by less than 1% margin. Imagine that!

The difference between Katharine and Elliot was only about 100,000 SMS votes.

And the difference between Katharine and Taylor was only 210,000 SMS votes.

And bear in mind these are SMS votes - one person could SMS 5-10 times, depending on how fanatic they are.

In a country like the USA with a population base of 280 million people - the differences between them are sheerly negligible.

Those who qualified tonight were lucky and Elliot was just unlucky.

But they all proved tonight that they're equally popular - votes-wise.

It'll be interesting to see how Elliot's voters will react to next week's finals.

I say they'll throw their weight behind Taylor Hicks.

Yep. Nervous wreck waiting to see if Kat might get eliminated. So, I checked early. ;)

For the record, I think Elliot deserves a recording deal, as well. At least a single - he's so good on R&B and jazz pieces!
