American Idol - The Final 6

Ace is OUT. And I lost the bet to Pinky. Drat!

It seems that there is a pattern nowadays. Always bet on the 2nd worst performer to be kicked out (actually, that's not even true for last night - Ace was only 3rd worst, I felt, after Kellie and Elliot)

But the surprise was that Chris Daughtry (gasp!) and Paris Bennett was in the bottom 3 last night, even though they delivered some of the best performances, from last night. (In fact, Paris's mature performance brought tears to my eyes - sometimes, the talent is so wonderful that it touches you, in a very deep, poignant way)

If I'm not wrong, the only 2 persons that have never been in the bottom 3 are Taylor Hicks and Kellie Pickler - no matter how well or badly, they performed. This shows a strong loyal fan base.

Everyone else has been in the bottom 3 before and some, like Paris, Ace and Elliot, have been there more than once.

What does that mean exactly?

It means that Kellie and Taylor are prime candidates to be in the top 3, because of their strong voting base.

It means that in the next few weeks, ceteris paribus, we are likely to see Paris, Elliot, Chris and (God forbid!) Katherine eliminated. Even though almost all of them, have got more talent than Kellie or Taylor.

My prediction? Heartbreak episodes of American Idol coming up. And the American Idol for this year, may just be a male or female equivalent of Mawi - more aura and popularity than talent.

But since I've been wrong about Ace (and yes, Pixie was right, darn it!), let's hope that my predictions are wrong.

Survival from elimination has to more with luck than performance or talent, from next week onwards.

That "bimboness" is personality, dear - it sticks to your mind like good branding. :)

And notice that the people who have never been in the bottom 3 - like Taylor and Kellie - always have bags of personality.

Dude, can we have a non-Idol post for social outcasts like me who don't watch Idol???

Sure, dear. :)

Actually, there were lots of posts, prior to this one that was not related to American Idol - though they're not very chirpy-lah.

But it's hard to imagine you as a social outcast - you, the modern, active-lifestyled, bright and high-achieving Malaysian woman in a foreign country in the 21st century. :)

elliot never has an off moment really. katherine was deadly horrible when she sang christina's song, taylor was 'sober' for 2 weeks in a row.

the best bet for top 3 now is taylor, chris and katherine. it's hard for chris to win because the rumour of Fuel offer to be their lead man.

Actually, reading the way things are going - the best bet for top 3 would be Taylor, Kellie and either Katherine/Chris.

Never underestimate Kellie - she's never been in the bottom 3 and she's got better vocal quality than Taylor.

Love her or hate her, she's going to be a strong contender for top 3.

It'll be sad to see Paris and Elliot, leaving so early, though. I swear at least one of them, (my vote is for Paris) deserves to be in the top 4.

My predictions for American idol

1. Kellie Pickler (the All American chick)
2. Taylor Hicks
3. Chris Daughtry

Paris will be probably out next week because she's black. Both Elliot and Katherine will probably be kicked out after that because they're both Jews (both their parents are from Israel - check out the websites)

Sorry for the cynicism for that's America for you - and I've seen to many American Idol to think otherwise.

Well, I have to respect your predictions and opinions. You're entitled to it.

But there has been 2 African American winners in the past - Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino.

And both of them beat contestants who are Caucasion non-African American in the finals.

The only 2 elements that's relevant is talent and popularity - although there are indications that the latter is becoming more prominent, than the former.

In that sense, American Idol may just become like Akademi Fantasia. We may have an American Mawi this year - in Kellie Pickler.

I think if anything - those who get kicked out, will get kicked out because they lack personality.

All the good ones - like Katherine, Paris, Chris and Elliot - are losing out to the likes of Kellie and Taylor in votes - because they're just good singers and simply lacking in the personality area.

I dispute what Simon Cowell said about American Idol - that it's a singing competition.

I disagree. It's become a popularity contest between good singers, really.

As for being Jewish, Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State to the US, was very Jewish.

And the current one, Condoleeza Rice , is an African-American. And so was 5-Star General Colin Powell, before her.

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are both Jewish, but that didn't stop them from becoming the biggest successes in the filmworld in America, ever.

There are many other examples of non-Caucasians and non-Christians making it in America.

There are many young people with grandparents or parents born in Israel, but they're so American now - they probably can't tell you accurately where Israel is on a blank map.

For all intents and purposes, some of these kids are purely Americans, identity-wise. Not Africans, not Israelis, not Hispanics, not Asians.
Just Americans.

Maybe it takes a little faith, but some things do go beyond racial, political and religious prejudice.

I'd like to believe so - especially for Malaysia, one day.

Missed last week's completely, but not shedding a tear over Ace's departure. But his votes will go to whom? Hicks and Daughtry, I think. I'm going for the long shot that Kellie will be out next week.

Don't know whether all of Ace's votes will transfer anywhere - some voters are like Pixie - they don't charge horses, even when their cowboy gets kicked out! ;)

Going for the long shot ith Kellie, huh? She's never been in the bottom 3. If that was a bet, that's a money-losing proposition, my friend. :)

Sometimes, long shots do come true. ;)
